Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is a direct bandgap semiconductor material that is widely used in thin-film photovoltaic applications. It has a near-optimal bandgap for solar energy conversion and a high optical absorption coefficient, enabling the fabrication of efficient and cost-effective solar cells. CdTe can be deposited as thin films using techniques like sputtering or close-spaced sublimation, allowing for its integration into large-area and flexible solar modules.
