Sputtering Magnesium Fluoride
The optics industry widely uses magnesium fluoride (MgF2) for its optical clarity across many wavelengths, from ultraviolet to infrared. It is a common choice for making optical components like lenses, windows, and prisms. These are essential in various optical instruments including telescopes, cameras, and binoculars. MgF2 also applies as a coating on optical surfaces where it reduces reflections and increases light transmission. This enhances the performance of optical systems.
As a sputter target, MgF2 enables precise thin film deposition on substrates through sputtering. During sputtering, a plasma generates and its ions point at the MgF2 target. The ion impacts knock off MgF2 molecules that then condense on the substrate, forming an even thin layer. This technique is very effective for producing films with consistent thickness and optical properties, which is critical for high-quality optics.
Using MgF2 sputter targets is especially important in industries requiring high purity and controlled film properties. These include making optical coatings for laser systems, telescopes, and photolithography equipment for semiconductor manufacturing. The deposited MgF2 layers help the durability and function of optical surfaces by protecting them from the environment while maintaining their necessary optical characteristics.
Magnesium Fluoride Sputtering Target Packaging
QSAMs sputter targets are vacuum sealed in plastic bags for shipping. We also use heavy foam to protect it. Common documents together with the sputter targets are packing list and analytical report e.g. COA
