About KTaO3 Sputter
Potassium tantalate (KTaO3) acts as a key ferroelectric material with ferroelectric, optical, and electro-optic properties alongside piezoelectricity. It finds wide application in electronics, optics, optoelectronics, and acoustic devices.
As a ferroelectric, KTaO3 can self-polarize and produce charge separation or polarization under external electric fields. This suits it well for electronics and memory uses such as ferroelectric random-access memory (FRAM), charge-coupled devices (CCD), and piezoelectric sensors. During semiconductor manufacturing of such devices, thin film coating technology often employs KTaO3 sputtering targets.
KTaO3 further demonstrates favorable optical characteristics like a broad bandgap and high transparency in the ultraviolet to near-infrared spectrum. Sputtered KTaO3 targets enable physical vapor deposition manufacturing of optical and photonic devices including waveguides, fiber optics, and photodetectors.
KTaO3 also converts mechanical stress to electrical signals as it acts piezoelectric. This property presents potential for acoustic sensors, pressure sensors, and surface acoustic wave devices.
QSAM's KTaO3 Sputter Target
Potassium Tantalate (KTaO3) acts as a one-phase material, which researchers synthesize by mixing potassium oxide and tantalum oxide through solid-phase synthesis. They then grind the resulting mixture into a powder and sinter it to obtain purified single-phase KTaO3 material.
For KTaO3 sputtering target production, manufacturers use the purified KTaO3 material. They prepare the sputter target by bonding the KTaO3 material to a backing plate, either standard or custom-made, through indium bonding. This bonding process ensures good adhesion between the KTaO3 material and backing plate, allowing for efficient sputtering during deposition.
Sputter Target Packaging
In a lot of cases, mixed oxide compounds are vulnerable to water. Our Potassium Niobate sputter targets are vacuum sealed in plastic bags for safety shipment. We also use heavy foam to protect this fragile ceramic material. Common documents together with the sputter targets are packing list and analytical report (COA)
