White graphene, the 2D BN nano material
Researchers from the Advanced Materials Research Institute of Deakin University in Australia found that 2D nano material boron nitride, known as "white graphene", has the capability to clean polluted water. Thus, it could be a new generation of materials with great market prospects.
The atoms of 2D boron nitride form an interconnected fence shaped structure, which can effectively absorb organic pollutants, such as chemical products and oil. The advantage of this new material is that it is easy to clean and reuse. The results show that the properties of BN are much better than many of the traditional materials.
Boron nitride is a crystal composed of nitrogen and boron atoms. Boron nitride has four different variants: hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), rhombic boron nitride (r-BN), cubic boron nitride (c-BN) and close packed hexagonal boron nitride (w-bn / wurtzite boron nitride).
The two-dimensional boron nitride material called white graphene belongs to hexagonal boron nitride.
BN can be prepared by melting B2O3 with NH4Cl or burning boron in NH3. Generally, the boron nitride prepared is a graphite type layered structure, namely hexagonal boron nitride. It is a white powder with loose, lubricating, moisture absorption, light weight, insoluble, high temperature resistance and other properties, so it is also called "white graphite"
